Do I need to speak Dutch to get a job in hospitality through VSK Talent?

No, Dutch is not required. Most of the restaurants we work with speak English in the workplace. If you speak English or Greek, that’s enough to start. Many restaurants in the Netherlands — especially those with international or Greek cuisine — are used to hiring staff from abroad. We’ll match you with employers who are already used to international workers, so you don’t need to worry about the language barrier.

Do I need to have previous experience in horeca or hospitality?

No. Experience is not required. We work with restaurants that are open to training motivated beginners. If you have never worked in horeca before, we will guide you through the basics, such as taking orders, carrying plates, serving drinks, cleaning tables, and simple communication with customers. We also offer training and test shifts to make sure you’re ready and confident before starting.

What types of hospitality jobs can I expect?

The jobs we offer are typically in restaurants across the Netherlands. Common roles include:

Waiter or waitress
Kitchen assistant or plate runner
Cleaning or dishwashing staff
Bar support (depending on experience and language)
Most positions are entry-level, but if you perform well or already have experience, we can help you move into better-paid or more stable roles over time. We always try to place people in roles that suit their strengths and language skills.

Where are these restaurant jobs located in the Netherlands?

The majority of placements are in medium to large cities and popular towns across the Netherlands. We mainly work with Greek and international restaurants that need reliable staff, especially during the busy seasons. Examples of cities where placements are common include Rotterdam, Breda, Eindhoven, Utrecht, and surrounding areas. We’ll always inform you of the location before you accept any job.

What happens after I apply through the form?

Once you fill out the application form and pay the small confirmation fee, you’ll receive a personal message or WhatsApp from someone on our team within 24 hours. We’ll review your answers, confirm your availability and work permit status, and ask a few simple follow-up questions. If everything looks good, we may invite you for a test shift or interview, either at a local restaurant or directly online. This is not a long process — we move quickly because restaurants need staff now.

Do I need a BSN (Burger Service Nummer) or work permit?

Yes. In order to work legally and get paid in the Netherlands, you need a valid BSN (Dutch citizen service number) and/or EU work rights. If you already have a BSN, that’s perfect. If you don’t have one yet, but you are from an EU country, we can guide you on how to get it quickly. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applicants who have no legal right to work and no plan to fix that soon.

Why do I need to pay €1 to apply? Is this normal?

The €1 application fee is a filter — not a profit. We added this small cost to prevent spam, fake submissions, and people who are not serious. In the past, we received too many fake or low-effort applications, which wasted our time and delayed serious candidates. The €1 helps us focus only on people who are truly motivated to work. This also shows employers that you're serious. We do not profit from this payment.

Can I choose where I work or do you assign me somewhere?

We try to match each person to the best possible restaurant based on your availability, location, language, and experience level. If we find a good match, we’ll contact you with the opportunity — you’re free to accept or decline. We do not force you into a job. You always have a choice. If the first offer is not a good fit, we can wait and look for a better one.

What if the job doesn’t work out or I don’t like it?

No problem. We know not every job is a perfect fit. If things don’t go well — whether it's a bad match, personal issue, or a misunderstanding with the restaurant — just let us know. We will either give you feedback, help you improve, or offer you a different opportunity when one becomes available. We’re here to support you long-term, not just fill one shift and forget you.
